Please don't try it alone. With the spring gone, the door's full weight is in your hands, and a sectional door is far heavier than it looks. If the car is trapped and you have no choice, use two adults, keep fingers clear of the panel joints, lift together and prop the door solidly under each side before anyone walks beneath it. Never pull the opener's release cord while the door is up; without a spring, nothing else is holding it.

We'd steer you away from it. A torsion spring is wound under enough force to break bones, and the winding bars, the spring and the order the tension comes off all have to be right.
