Quick Answer
ABC Garage Door Repairs handles roller door repairs across all of Perth from our base in Bennett Springs, 24/7: curtains that have jumped their guides, springs that have snapped or slipped inside the drum, worn axles and bearings, roller-door motors that no longer respond, and locks, handles, weather seals and bent guide tracks. Home garages, sheds and commercial shutters are all covered. Describe the fault on the phone and we say what it is likely to be, then quote before anything is touched, with no call-out fee. Most repairs are finished the day they are booked.
What Goes Wrong With a Roller Door, and What We Do About It
A roller door is the simplest garage door there is: one corrugated steel curtain, an axle, a spring inside the drum and a pair of guides. That simplicity is why so many Perth garages, sheds and shopfronts run one, and it is also why a roller door tends to fail in the same handful of ways. The curtain walks out of a guide, the spring loses tension or snaps, the axle bearings wear until the door drags, or the motor stops doing its share. Each of those has a fix that costs less than a new door, and each gets worse the longer the door is forced.
The usual cause is force. A curtain that clips a bin, a car mirror or a stiff guide gets pushed anyway, and the edge bends. A spring that has gone slack makes the door heavy, so the motor strains against it until the motor gives up too. Weather plays its part: a door that faces the rain and sun long enough pits the curtain and stiffens the guides, and a door that is never lubricated wears its bearings early. None of it is bad luck, and all of it shows on a proper look at the drum, the guides and the bottom rail.
We start on the phone. Tell us what the door is doing and we will usually tell you what has failed and what the repair involves before anyone drives out. On site the door is taken through its full travel, the spring tension is measured against the curtain weight, and the guides, bearings, lock and seal are checked while we are there. There is no call-out fee, and the price is agreed with you before any work starts. If the curtain is beyond straightening, you get an honest word about replacement rather than a repair that will not hold.
Common Problems We Fix

- Commercial roller shutters and shed doors handled the same way as a home garage door
- Full-travel test with the door balanced by hand before the motor goes back on
How Our Repair Process Works
Describe the door
What it does, what it sounds like, and whether it is a home garage, a shed or a shopfront.
Stop forcing it
Do not run the motor against a jammed curtain — that is how one repair becomes three.
Diagnose on site
Curtain, guides, drum, spring tension, bearings and motor checked in that order.
Repair and re-balance
The failed part fixed or replaced, then the spring set so the curtain lifts by hand.
Test and hand over
Full travel run under power, limits reset, and what to watch for explained before we leave.
Why Choose ABC Garage Door Repairs
Roller doors are our bread and butter
So many Perth garages, sheds and shopfronts run one that the faults above are the calls we take every week.
Repair before replace
A straightened curtain and a re-tensioned spring cost less than a new door, and we say so.
Homes, sheds and shopfronts
Domestic curtains, farm and workshop shed doors, and commercial roller shutters on the same books.
Balanced by hand first
The spring is set so the curtain lifts on its own before any motor is asked to move it.
Priced before we start
There is no call-out fee, and the price is agreed with you before any work starts.

Frequently Asked Questions
It depends on which part has failed. Putting a curtain back into its guides is the smallest job; a spring that has snapped inside the drum, a worn axle or a new set of guides costs more; and a roller-door motor replacement is the top of the range. The size of the door matters too — a wide commercial shutter is more work than a single garage curtain. We tell you the figure once we have seen the door, and it is agreed before anything is touched, with no call-out fee to come and look.
Five faults cover most calls. The curtain comes out of its guides, usually after it has clipped something and been forced. The spring inside the drum loses tension or snaps, which makes the door heavy and the motor strain. The axle bearings wear until the door grinds or drags on one side. The roller-door motor stops responding, hums without moving, or loses its limits. And the lock, handle or bottom weather seal wears out. The first four get worse each time the door is forced, so stop using it and call.
ABC Garage Door Repairs repairs roller doors across all of Perth from our base in Bennett Springs, 24/7. Home garages, sheds and commercial shutters are all covered, and the same people who repair the doors also supply and fit new ones, so you get one honest answer on repair versus replace. Describe the fault on the phone and we will tell you what it is likely to be and when we can be there.
Repairing almost always costs less when the fault is one part: a spring, a bearing, a guide, a lock or a motor. Replacement starts to make sense when the curtain itself is the problem — rust through the steel, a bend that will not straighten, or damage across several sections — or when a very old door is on its third or fourth repair in a row. We say which case yours is with the door in front of us, and if a new curtain is the honest answer you get it quoted there and then rather than at another appointment.
Most single-fault repairs take under an hour once we are on site: a curtain re-seated, a spring re-tensioned or replaced, a lock or seal swapped. A new motor or a set of guides runs longer, and a wide commercial shutter longer again. Most repairs are finished the day they are booked.
Please leave the spring to us. It sits inside the drum under tension, and releasing it without the right sequence lets the whole curtain drop or the axle spin. Re-seating a curtain that has only just come out of its guide is sometimes possible by hand with the door disconnected from the motor, but anything involving the drum, the spring or the axle is where people get hurt. Call, describe it, and we will tell you what is safe to try while you wait.
