Two Very Different Machines Under One Badge
ATA — Automatic Technology Australia — has been engineering openers here since 1978 and is now part of the B&D Group. Its range spans a long way: the EasyRoller is a residential roller door opener you would find on an ordinary suburban garage, while the Dave is a commercial operator built for doors that cycle dozens of times a day.
That split matters for repairs. A commercial operator is specified for a duty cycle, and it is almost always cheaper to repair one than to replace it, because the replacement has to meet the same rating. A residential unit is a more ordinary repair-or-replace calculation.
The faults are what you would expect. Travel and force limits drift; capacitors weaken so a motor hums without pulling; gears wear where a door's springs have gone soft; remotes lose their pairing or fill the memory. On the commercial side, add wear from sheer cycle count — a workshop door that opens forty times a day is doing a decade of home use every year.

Repair it when…
- It is a commercial operator — matching the duty rating again is expensive, and repairs are usually far better value.
- The fault is a limit, a remote, a capacitor or a gear kit.
- The unit runs cleanly once the door is re-balanced.
- Parts are still available for the model, which for current ATA units they are.
Replace it when…
- The board has failed on a residential unit that is no longer supported.
- The drive is worn through after years on an out-of-balance door.
- A residential unit is being used at commercial cycle rates and keeps failing.
- The opener is underrated for the door it was fitted to.
