Usually, yes. If the door is in good shape and balanced, a new motor can go straight on. We check the springs, rollers and tracks first, because a stiff or heavy door will wear the new motor out quickly. Old remotes rarely work with a new opener, so plan on new ones.

On a roller door the opener bolts on beside the drum and drives the axle itself, so it needs side room next to the door and a power point within reach. Sectional and tilt doors use a ceiling-mounted rail opener instead. The two types are not interchangeable, and we match the motor to the door's size and weight.
Some people do, but the risky parts are not the bolts. The door has to be balanced before the motor is set up, and that means working with springs under tension. The closing force and safety beams also have to be set so the door reverses on a person or car. If any of that is unfamiliar, have it fitted.
A straight swap on a standard single door usually takes a couple of hours, including coding remotes and testing. A first-time install, new safety beams, extra wiring or spring work adds time. We will give you a realistic figure when we price the job.
